On the 22nd-23rd of March the 1st IFIP WG5.7 Spring School for doctoral students with a focus on Serious Games took place at BIBA Bremen. In total 15 doctoral students from Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Lithuania participated in the spring school. The spring school has been co-organized by the GaLA partners BIBA Bremen, Politecnico di Milano and ETH Zurich.

The aim of the spring school was to offer a platform for networking as well as to provide the opportunity to gain hands-on experience on decision-making in supply chain and operations management. The first day of the Spring School was organized as a workshop where the participants played three different serious games – SECONDS, LOGISTICS BOARD GAME and LEGO RACING TEAM – which are used for educational purposes. Within the games, the participants took over the role of a manager in a global enterprise and were responsible for decision-making. This gave the workshop participants the chance to increase their knowledge in the area of serious gaming and to understand in which context games can be applied for a transfer of knowledge and skills. The second day of the workshop provided opportunities for networking and community strengthening, along with various social activities.
